Sugar – The good, the bad and the ugly

Sugar is, in my opinion, the most addictive and destructive substance in our food chain today. Chronic illnesses such as Diabetes, Cancer, Alzheimer’s and other degenerative illnesses have been linked to sugar, yet we continue to consume hefty amounts. Why? Because it’s addictive of course! The brains response to sugar has been likened to that of a hit of Class A drug; so no wonder we find it difficult to go cold turkey.

Not all sugars are equal, and the rate in which carbohydrates create a surge in blood sugars is the key to understanding those that are good, those that are bad and those that are downright ugly. Understanding the foods that create spikes in blood sugar, is crucial in mastering blood sugar control, which results in weight loss, greater energy and vitality.

About The Author

My culinary upbringing lacked a maternal figure, often featuring frozen and highly processed meals. In my teenage years, I formed an emotional connection with sugary treats. The more I tried to shed pounds by dieting and excluding certain food groups, the stronger my cravings became. I found myself trapped in a cycle of bingeing and purging that seemed
impossible to break free from. Does this sound familiar?
